THE GOLD RETURNS OF THE COLONIES

Mr Hayter m hla statistics gives the following ac the gold yield of the Australian colonies np to the end of the year 1886 :

There are no returns c f ihe gold raised m Wtßtern Australia, though it is belinved a considerable quantity waa detained en tbe i KimbedUy goldfielda of that COIODy daring, and some prior to, 18S6. *Io Victoria the averago value of the gold raise* is £4 per oz; and m Queensland £3 10i per oz; Th.B parity and consequently the value, varies considerably m different districts. Standard gold is worth £3 17a lo£i, and pure gold £4 ii ll|d per ox.
