RAILWAYS BILL. Tho Council ia committee considered bho Govorr.raenfc Railways Bill. Mr ftwamon, m olausa 34, moved as an amondment that the coinmiaaloners should not have power to grant licenses to sell liquors at stations, The Council divided, and the amondment was loßt by 5 to 21, Some unimportant amendments were agreed to and the Bill was reported with amendments. lA.ND BOARDS; A. mesHßge was reoelved from the House of Representatives stating that they disagreed with the Council's amendment abolishing Land Boards. Mr Stevens moved that the Council fl. amendments be insisted on, and that he, Mr B.onar, and Mr Waterhoosa be appointed managers for drawing op reasons for disagreeing. SECOND READINGS. The Wellington College and Girh 1 High School Bill were read a Baoond time, as also was the Ohrlstohuroh District Drainage Bill. The olause e>s amended waa agreed to, the Bill reported, read a third time, and passed. BILL PASSED, The Christohuroti District Drainage Amendment BUI was committed. The Bill waß reported with verbal amendments and passed its final stages. kepoet. Tho Committee appointed to draw up reasons for insisting upon their amendments m the Land Bill brought up their report, which was agreed to, and a free conference was agreed to, the managera for the Council being Maßsra Stevens, Bonar, and Waterhouse. SECOND READINGS, The Gißborne Harbor Board Act Amendment Bill was read a second time. Mr Pharazyn moved the Becond reading of the Wanganul Harbor Board Bill. Mr MoLaan moved as ah amendment that the Bill be read that d»y six months. After discussion the motion for second reading was rejected on a division by 7 to 18. The Inveroargill Waterworks Reserve Bill was read a second time, committed, reported without amendment, and passed through all ita stages. The Council at 10*50 adjourned to the following day.
