A NEW SYSTEM OF GOVERNMENT

A meeting of members, convened by Major Steward and Dr Hodgklnson, was held this morning to consider the desirableness of an alteration m the present form of patty government and parliamentary procedure. Major Steward cooupied the ohalr, and the following gentlemen were also present:— Sir G. Grey, Messrs Anderson, Withy, Monk, Buxton, Newman, Hodgklnson, T&ylor, Cowan, Grlmmond, R. Beeves, Blake, Prrtt Samuel, Perceval, Tanner, Marohant, Lawry, LeveaUm and Feldwlck. The Chairman explained that the meeting had been called for no ulterior party purpose but simply to effeot an improvement In the present system of government. He laid before the meeting a series of printed suggestions which had . been drawn up, and, after the matter bad been fully discussed, the following resolutions were agreed to:—" That this meeting generally is of opinion that it Is desirable to consider whether a soheme cannot be devised whereby the admitted evils of the present system of government and parliamentary procedure may be remedied." "That the Chairman, Pr Hodgklnson, and Mr Tanner be appointed a Committee with a view to formulate proposals to be submitted to a meeting to be called by such Committee during the first week of next session." "That those memben present bring the subject before their constituents daring the ] recess. ''
