At the Supreme Court Michael Lyttelton, for indecent assault, was sentenced to twelve months bard labor ; Colin McL«achl!n, for larceny as a bailee, to two years ; snd John Scott, horse stealing, to four years. John James Meikle, for steep stealing was brought np for sentence. He made a long statement alleging that be and bis son were Innocent His Honor regretted that he could not give any crederjoejto the accused's statement, He bad been the bead centre of a ring of plunderer! m his distrlot and relied lor f&omnnlty from the consequences on ihthird swearing he was able to procure. Ho hvi trained his son to perjury and fill servants to plunder, and m hie Honor's opinion there was no honest farmer within ten miles of Melkle's neighborhood, bat wonld sleep sounder because of his conviction. Tbe sentence tc fee passed would relieve them of any feat -of bis depredations for some years to come And enable his son to reform. Sentenced to eerea jears penal servitude, MeifeU baa a large family of yonng children anc a wife suffering from heart disease.
