H.M.S. NELSON.
PUNIBHING DISCONTENTED BEs\MSN. Auckland, December 19. It Is announced that H.M.B. Nelson will proceed to sea either on Friday or Saturday next, and remain away until the Thursday morning following, thus debarring the officers and crew of having Christmas on shore. For some time past • portion of the upper deck crew of the flagship havlf shown signs of discontent ana m various ways on the passage across from Sydney have noted m suoh an csrnly manner as to necessitate some firm steps being taken to panlsh the offenders. Hence the decision that the Nelson shall be absent from port daring the Christmas holidays. From enquiries made It appears the men oomplain of very eevere work pnt upon them In the matter of drill etc., and consequently by a portion of them have grown so discontented with tbslr position that they have almost gone bo far as to refuse dnty altogether, and it Is said that If the vessel goes to sea as at present arranged they will absolutely refuse duty. On the way from Sydney It Is said letters were sent to Admiral Falrfft* informing htm that the men would commit certain breaohes of duty, and the threats were carried out to the .extent that several sights of guns are missing and are thought to have been fthrown overboard by the n/iloontents.
