VICTORIAN PARLIAMENT.
The Victorian Parliament was prorogued to-day by the Governor, who m a speech on the occasion congratulated members on the passage of the Naval Forces Bill by which the defence of the; Australian s»eas was for the first time adequately secured. Alluding to the New Hebrides he Gaid . that the well grounded apprehensions which existed concerning the action of the French had been relieved by the convention recently concluded between England and France. The prosperity oi the colony was greater than ever, and If there was some falling off m the mineral wealth of the country it was amply compensated for by the increase o( manufactures, and the solid develop** ment of agriculture. . Revenue was never more abundant, or mQie easily collected than at present. la conclusion his Excellency referring to the coming Contennial Exhibition, said that its success, was assured owing to the* liherai support which would be accorded from all parts of the world.
