RETRENCHMENT, A circular was read from the Board of Edaoatlon m regard to a reduction In the EdncaUon vote. The Chairman moved ''That this Committee hopes the Board will make the reductions m teachers salaries as email as possible, as all reductions tend to Impair tin effioloncy of the eohool. Seconded by Mr Cook, and carried. maotbr's bepobt. The Master reported as follows : — The attendance for the last four weeks has been ng follows : .Number on roll — Boys, 190 ; girlfc, 199. Total, 344— Holidays : In accordance with agreement between the head master of Hampstead School and myself who think it advisable that both schools should close and re-open at the same time, I recommend that the school be cloeed Oil the 15th inst. for five weeks. Ihe pupil teachers being away at' Chxistchurcb for examination next wetk, renders it neceaasnry to close ou that date, — Concert and treat and prizes : A good programme, m which the singing of the upper classes of the school will be a prominent feature, bas been made for the concert on behilf of the school treat. It is to be regretted that prizes could not be distributed at the closing, us tho children have unquestionably deserved them this year, but owing to a rush of concerts, etc. , at this time, it is not likely that sufficient unda will be raised both for a treat and prizes. If the Committee Bee no objection, I would like to arrange for the latter by tho performance of a school cantata about the end of next March. — VII Standard. — The Committee aie doubtless aware that the Government and Board of Education do not see their way to grant capitation next year on behalf of tho seventh Standard. This is a matter of considerable regret, as the children m that Standard are anxious to pursue a higher and more useful course of instruction, and their presence acts as a great incentive to perseverance on the other children. It might be arranged to carry them on m the school, at the same time refraining from making any c'aim on 1 their behalf, — Certificates : Did the CommiUoe resolve last year to grant attendance certificates for each six months or each year ] In spite of the bad winter and prevalent sickness, four pupils have succeeded m being present every time up to today. — I should recommend the school treat to be held on Friday before re- opening, same as last year.
