Thla will effect a a saving m the future of iboat thirty or thirty-six hourß In tho through time between London and New Zealand as alao a caving m time In ihe mails going from here to England, frio Borvice from Louion to Now Zsaiand jan bo atill further Improved by at leant sne day and poaalbly by two or throe daya if the mails woro forwarded from Liverpool by the eteamer Btruria, wlilch is tho fastest Atlantic liner 1 float, inotead of by the Gormanio, which takes a couple nf days longer m crossing tho Atlantic With respect to tho payments made and mail oetvlooo by the United States, it seems that no contribution was ever received From thla nouroe until last yoar, when 20,000 dollars annually wore given by the American Government. Mr Villas, the United States Poatmaater-General, baß, however, promised to increase this annual payment In future to the fall extent allowed by United States law which regulates the transportation of foreign mall matter. Tho 'Frisco Chamber of Commereo has o^o polltioned Congress for a special appropriation for tho Australasian mail service.
