The rooms were largely attended and lively competition was elicited for all lots. The prices all round were rather better than last week. The catalogue comprised 1255 bales, whereof 1100 were quitted at excellent prices. Good greasy realised iod per lb ; medium to good, 8d par lb to o^d; inferior to -medium, <scl to 7M d ; crossbred ! superior quality, iod; medium to good, 8d to 9,% d' 3 coarse, 6^d to 7^05 washed' merino, I4j^dj scoured, i6j^d. London, December 11. Ships for Australia are scarce, consequently Australian freights; are hardening. Th,e beetroot crop is expected tofal} below the estimate, Sugar is quoted at 15s 3d, and is still advancing. Queensland sugar is quoted at 15s par cwt.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Compaay Limited have received the following cable message from their London office, dated December ioth ;-,* Wool— The sales closed firmly this day at the level of last sales. For long-stapled merino, i light m grease, especially new clip, the i market is firmer. The sales comprise ( 156,000 bales 1 85,000 bales have been ( taken lor the Continent, 1500 for \ America, and 11,000 held over for future disposal. (
