A NEW TRUMPET.

A Cincinnati paper describes a wonderful trumpet, the invention of Harry B. Cox, a young electrician, residing noar that city. The trumpet is intended to ba Bsed for his diecovery of the great distance an echoed or reveberot?d sound will carry, and tbe diecovery that speaking trumpets, if made to give the same fundamental note, would vibrate and produce the phenomenon known as " sympathy. " With th'fl trumpet conversation m an ordinary tone of voice was carried on between parties four and a quarter miles apart. People sitting at their windows or on their porches a mile away, conversing m fin ordinary tone, could be distinct'y heard, and m two instances they were told the nature of: their conversation and admitted that snch had taken pace. By listening lo the whistle and tracing ifc to and beyond Fernbank to Lawronceburg, Indiana, it was found that the laetrnment had a well defined range of 26 nri'e.s ; that is, a loud Bound like a locomotive whistle or the rumbling of a train, could be distinctly heard at the dietance of 13 miles m every direction. Conversation was readily carried on botween men on high hills on opposite sides of the Ohio River, about four aDd a half miles apart, 'iests made on the water showed that the trumpet was oven more available than on land. Tbe ms trument will be patented as soon as perfected. A name has not been chosen for it.
