WAKANUI ROAD BOARD.
A meeting of this Board was held on Sa'urday, Present— Meßßrs M. Brace (Chairman), G. Coe, J. Brown and W. T. LIU. DEPUTATION. Meßsra Straohao and Quigley, interviewed the Board with reference to a direct road from Dromore to Aahburton. They urged upon the Board the necessity of such a road being m thia district instead of above the line as suggested, — The deputation were informed ihat the Board were desirous of asaUting them and would again write to the authorities and also ascertain tbe oost of purchasing the necessary land. CORBESPONDEKOE. From County Council, stating that the Boundary road had been placed under the control of the South Rakaia Road Board, and that the apportionment of cost would be considered at next meeting, and asking if the Board desired to make any further statement. — The Chairman informed the Board that he had caused a letter to be written to the Council pointing out how the oost should be fairly apportioned. From P. Maguire, oomplalning of the state of the road giving accesa to h!a section. — The Surveyor was given instructions on the matter. From Wilding and Lewie, solicitors for Mr D. Wilson, suggesting that the claim for damages should be hoard before Mr Ollivier, RM., thus caving costs of a Supreme Court action. —The Board were quite willing to fall m with the suggestion ; and appointed Mr White, of Timaru, as their solicitor. From F. T. Mayo, stating that the Hampstead Town B iard were willing to pheck the email bird nuisance, but thought it only waste of time and money unless the Borough also took action. From the Town Clerk, Informing the Board that the burgesses would be requested to abate tho small bird nuisance on their properties m the Borough From H. McElrea stating that he had lost £10 worth of goods on Wilson'a road by reason of a hole on that road caused by last flood, and asking if the Board would help him. — Toe Board sympathised with Mr McElrea on his loss, but a* it was no fault of theirs it was out of their power to assist. surveyor's report. The Surveyor's report was read as follows : — (I) Wilson's road.— Wo would aek if tho Board will have the road metalled from the Beach road to Wakanui School road ; or If they conßidor it unwise to undertake euoh a work In the present state of river enoroaohment shall we have metal put on the portion where it has been washed off, — We may say rapid encroachnront is being made by the river, which is now setting m straight for the land i~ line with the end of the br'vrark.
(2) Go roe oi roads, — Aa notices to remove gorae off the roada have not been taken notice of by certain occupiers, we intend In accozdance with a resolution of the Board to take the usual proceedings, (3) Buokley'B road, — The work on thiß road has been completed. (4) Tusaocklng. — We have arranged to have the tussooking done on the Ohertßey and Mill roada. Clause I.— Tender to be called for 1500 yards of metal, to be m by 17th inst. The remainder of the report was Adopted. ACCOUNTS. After paaßlng accounts, tbe Board adjourned. '
