Fires. Auckland, December 3. Soon after mid night this morning a five-roomad cottage m Surrey Crescent, belonged to John E. Watson was destroyed by fire. It has been unoccupied for three month?; losared In the South Britlah for £120. Two hours later a four-roomed house m Firet Avenue, Kinysland was burned down; It was also unoccupied and was owned by Mr Barker. Insursnoe unknown. A Protest. The Industrial Association Committee has resolved to hold a publio meeting on Tuesday next to protest against the action of the Government In not dealing with the tariff this session. Fatal Accident. Mastxrton, December 3. A maD named Jaoob Isackson, living at Upper Mfturloevllle, was found m the bueh injured yesterday afternoon. He died this morning, be waa bash-felling, end ; is supposed to have been hurt by a tree falling on him about four days ago and that he has been lying there ever since. An inquest will be held this afternoon. He Is a married man and leaves a wife and eavon children. Committed for Trial. Wellington, December 3. At the Pv.M. Court Charles Wataon was ' commited for trial on a charge of criminal assault, ' Inquest. Dunedin, December 3 At the lnqußßt on Violet Powell, Dr Brown said tho Immediate c»ubo of death waa congestion of the bowels. This was not an ancomn.oa cause of death after burna and might have been caused by the burns, and wbs more likely to occur In this case because the child had been suffering from thrush or something Blmllar. He could not say for certain that congestion was caused by the burns. Tho scalding was a severe one, Bcfticlent m itself to cause death, Tho inquiry will last all the afternoon,
