LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL.
•Tuesday— November 29. The Council met at 2.30 p.mi MIDLAND RAILWAY. The revised contract of tho Midland Bail way Company, as Bent up from tbo House, was considered. Sir Frederick W hitaker moved that the Council concur m the alterations. lie reviewed the matter from the first contract to the present time, lie considered that the interests of the colony wou'd be conserved by the new contract. Mr Waterhouse moved that the matter be referred to a Select Committee with the view to obtain a legal opinion as to whether clause three would absolve the ooloDy from any future claims for compensation.
Mr Olivei and Mr Pharazyn favored the appointment of the Committee, but expressed the opinion that it would have been better if tho scope of the Committee had been enlarged. After further discussion, the debate was adjourned to next day, and the Council rose.
