Albany, November 28. The following items of European news are to hand per Maaaillla ; — London, November 28.

Lord R. Ohurohlll, addressing a meetIng on the 22ad lmt, took occasion te reply to charges made by Mr Gladstone against the Unionist party and the Irish executive. He denied Mr Gladstone's aoouaation that the Unionists had recourse to ooerolon on Insufficient grounds, and m proof thereof he referred to the history of several coercive laws, which had been enforced. The charge that Unionists had pledged themselves not to resort to extreme measures he declared to be unfounded. In oritiolslng the attitude of Mr Gladstone towards the police he attributed this onslaught upon the constabulary to Mr Gladstone's allianoa with the revolutionary party, whose views were affected if disorder and anarchy took place. If the authority of the law were to be deaturbed by future political ohangea he predioted the decay of the material prosperity of England. The speaker alluded * to statement made by Mr Gladstone, that he (Mr Gladstone) approved of the National League because it ; waa different m its organisation from the Land League against whioh he had to aot whea m office. Lord R. Churohill, however, pointed to ft apeeoh made by Mr Davitt last week declaring that the National League was identical with its predeoessor. A demonstration was held m London on Saturday last whloh aiaumed very large proportions m the morning. The meeting waa held at Olerkenwell for the purpose of protesting against the eonduot of the police In diaperoing the outdoor gathering* of the p*at week, the Resolutions were passed demanding dUmlaaal of Sir Charier Warren and the appointment of a civilian instead as Chief Commissioner of tho Metropolitan Police. A meeting was again held under the auapioea of tho London Patriotic Club, at whioh an enormous crowd congregated, and several violent speeches were mads,

After eeveral speeches had been dollvered, resolutions were adopted by the meeting to petition Government to obtain work for the unemployed by oomtnenolng various pabHo works, among othero the formation of the embankment oa the south side of the Thames. The orowd then marohed man orderly manner to Westminster Abbey, where a large number attended the afternoon service, some few behaving very irrevecently upon the conclusion of tho service, The crowd returned to Trafalgar Square, where more speeohea were delivered. Towards five o'clock the Square was densely packed, and the mob bsoame somewhat disorderly, several persons being bustled about but nothing serious malted, and the crowd gradually dispersed. Before tbe Teignmouth Magistrates two charges of asiault were preferred against Hugh Trevannion by hlB wife, who Is a daughter of Sir Daniel Oooper. The defendant and his wife reside at Telgnraonth, and it *as alleged that ha had squandered her money and cruelly treated her, blaokenlng her eyes. The Bench sentenced defendant to three weeks imprisonment for each oharge. Notioo of appeal was given.
