THE N.Z. CUP QUESTION.

A meeting of the Committee of the C.J.C was (says the "Press") held on Saturday evening hat, to consider the question of the dispute as to the short running m the JMew Zealand Cup at the late Metropolitan meeting. After some discussion it was resolved to postpone any further action with regaid to the matter until a meeting of tke Stewards had been called. This, it is expected, will be held during the ensuing week, and the Stewards will then report to the officers of the Club. In tho meanwhile the stakes for the Cup have nor yet been paid over.

The Stewards of the (jlanterbury Jookey Club have been eeired with a notice from Mr D. O'Brien's solicitor, to withhold from paying over the New Zealand Oup stakes. A protOßt was entered by Mr O'Brien on the ground that the race was run short of tho proper distance, which tho Stewards disallowed. On acoonnt uf there being no Supreme Court Judge available, Mr O'Brien waß unable to obtain an injunction, and m the meantime had the notice served upon the 0. J.O. threatening prooeed ; ngß if the stakes were paid over.
