SOUTH RAKAIA CEMETERY BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting of the above was held on Thnraday. Present — Messrs Ooster (Chairman), Mulligan and Stringfellow. The Secretary reported that it was absolutely necessary that a shed or oottage be erectud on the ground ao that the tools might be kept under look and key, and a plan showing the graves deposited therein. Some portions of the ground required laying out and paths forming, and many of the plots required re-pegging. The grass was very good this year and should boII well. With regard to tho statement made at the iaßt meeting, he wliihed to explain that ha had not given an order for the Interment of the late Mra JohDston m Mr McPhaile parobaaed plot ; he was m town at the time and having expUiued to tbe grave-digger tbe eyetem adopted respecting bnriolß, he aont the office key by Mr Allan bo that the gravo-diggpr conld got the cem&tery key. Had there been a pan of tho plota at the cemetery the mistake oould not have occurred, With regard to the statement that thn late Mr fiartnell had purchased two emotions, and that he (tbe secretary) bad uaed one, it was not correct, and there was nothing shown m the books to warrant ouch a statement. At tho time the sections were supposed to be taken up neither hlmoelf nor the preaeot B~ ard had a'-ything to do with the cemetery, the affairs of whloh were then m a very muddled atate. Sinoe he bad been conuooted with the Board he had used bis best endeavors to straighten matters up and he could not allow the Imputations to pans unoontradlcted. It was deoided thut as tho Road Board had given permission to use the whare, a cottage was not required at present, The Secretary was instructed to draw up a schedule of duties, and call tenders ;or the office of caretaker and grave«diggec, to be In by the next meeting The Secretary undertook to put m the pegs required.
