The weather was magnificent, and consequently the attendance of the public was enormous. As the horses filed round the turn Lava was seea to be leading Abereorn by three lengths, then followed Whakawal, Australian Peer, and Niagara, while Tranter and Jobuslte brought up the rear of the field. Lay* maintained the lead to the bridge, whereshe was four lengths ahead of Abereorn, who wan closely attended by Enfilade, Tranter, Niagara, and Australian Peer. Jebuaite being still last. As the field «pproaohed the scraping sheds Aberoorn ran up to Lava, and passing her m a few strides assumed the oommand, having the Australian Peer m close attendance upon him. Tranter and Jebaalta at thia stage were hopelessly beaten. Aberoorn continued the lead Into the straight, whloh he entered btrely ahead of Australian Pear and Niagara, the other horns at this point being done with, A grand finish ensued all the way home, Australian Peer wresting the oommand from Abtroora at the distance post, and despite the gallant efforts of the latter to rtoovtr th« lead, won by half a length, Niagara, who finished splendily, making a dead htat for second place.
