THE SUEZ CANAL AND THE NEW HEBRIDES.

In the Anglo French Convention regarding the New Hebrides no mention is made of the recidiviste question, but it is understood that assurances on the subject given by the French Government m October, 1885, will be fully maintained. , It is officially announced by Sir Henry Holland that France has contracted to evacuate New Hebrides m four months. The Marquis of Salisbury m a despatch to Mr E. H. Egerton, Secretary to the British Legation, Paris, limits the recognition of the annexation rjf Raiatea by France. It is feared m Berlin that the settlement of negotiations regarding the New Hebrides and the Suez Canal Convention will cause England and France to coalesce. ->-»-—_»-»-—»■»»-_______—_.
