Elmslie, of Obristohurch, who recently arrived here for the purpose of temporarily occupying the pulpit of Scots Church, Collins street, preached his ftnt sermon at that Church on Sunday morning. Alt the recipients expressed their gratitude to the public and Government for their kindness In subscribing to the fond, but the castaways showed some sign* of disapproval at the amount given to Oaptatn Drew. At a •peelal meeting of the Victorian Cricketer*' Aatooiatfon, held lest night, it wai decided, by IT votes to 14, that a reeolntion recently adopted, declining to grant the Association's patronage to the English professional team be rescinded. The refusal of the Association to recognise the Lily white and Shrewsbury team had called forth a good deal of indignation, »nd the action taken last night will meet general approbation. Hobabt, October 18. In the House of Assembly today, Mr Niobolts Brown's Want of Confidence motion, condemning the financial scheme of the Government, tabled last Thursday, fraa debated. The debate *as maintained for six hours, when a division was t%ken, resulting m a majority of six for the Government.
