A DISCOVERY.

A sensational report has reached Bruthen, Viotoria, of the discovery of a mountain of gold-bearing quartz. It has been visited by Mr Neik Jorgeneen, one of the oldeßt prospectors m the diatriot, who reports the find as something wonderf al. The lode haß been measured over 60ft m width, very hard and solid, and carrying mineral and gold the whole width. 7t has been traced over two miles on the surface, exposing mineral and gold the whole distance. There are thousands of tons of Btone broken down ready for crushing. The lode is intersected by a deep creek, the bed of which is a mass of gold-bearing quartz boulden?, many of them 100 tons m weight, and immediately above on the north side is a maßß of solid quartz overhanging folly 70ft m width. Maoy claims Are being marked out, and the want of a mining registrar is severely felt. The discoverer is Mr Ate •• ard, of NowaNowa. The r-fficfal news, while pointing to an important discovery, is less pronounced m character. Mr H. Crofton Stavely, warden, telegraphed from Buchan to the Mines department as follows .— " A reef 26ft thick, traced for 200 yds, has been discovered by Abraham William Ward on Boggy Creek, about one mile above its passage into the NowaNowa arm of Lake Tyers. There nave been several trials of email quantities of stone. Fine gold seen m all, much mixed I with iron pyrites. Gold eeen also on the surface on each side of ;the reef."
