AUSTRALIAN RAILWAYS
The annual report of the railways of Daw South Walei wai limed the lame week as the report of the Victorian department. The salient figures are : Capital invested : Victoria, £26,171,000 ; New South Wales, £27.300 000 Gross receipts : Vlotorla, £2,453,000; New South Walts, £2,190,000. Expendltnre : Vlotoria, £1,427,000 : New South Walea, £1,492,000. Net receipts : Victoria, £1,026.000 ; New Sonth Wales, £667,000. Net Intereafc earned : Victoria 4 per cent ; New South Walej, 3 pe* cent. It is no wonder (aayg the " Melbourne Argus) that a large party In New South Wales it clamouring for the Vie torian system of management and another Mr Speight and no doubt it Mr Speight were available his service* would be bid for.
