THE MAIL SERVICE.

The Treasury agree to pay a subsidy of ,£90,000 for the carriage of Australian mails, and ask Australia to contribute THB AUSTRALIAN FLEET.

The " Globe " states that the Australian auxiliary fleet will consist of the Archer, Brisk, Cossack, Amphion, and Lizard, all new vessels ; the three first named are torpedo cruisers. In additiion to these two fast cruisers and four smaller vessels will be kept as a reserve tor Australia. Docks and a shipyard will be erected at Sydney, and the necessary machinery and appliances have already been ordered.
