LONGBEACH ROAD BOARD.

A meeting of this Board was held hit Friday. Present — Measrs J. Bishop, J. Williams, and S. Holland. An apology was received from the Chairman (Bit Gri^g) who was absent through illness* Mr Bishop waa yoted to the ohalr. OOBBEBPONDBNOB. From the Trust and Loan Company, calling the Board's attention to the damage done by storm water to a fenoi bounding a property In which the Company Is interested, and asking to hare a concrete fall pat In to as to prevent soour — It was resolved to point out to the Company that if greater convenience was made for the outlet to the water at the creek running through the property, the sooor complained of would {not take place. survbyoh's bwobt (1) Beach rond— We have examined the line of water raoe asked for at last meeting by Mr Ashton. If a proper fall is maiotained the whole way we do not see that there will be any objaotiou. The bridge over Ford's oreek on this road hai subsided, and the approaches washed away at each side. Being a eih\bridge It oannot be repaired. We should say that a ford oould be made here with a oon> , crete dam at the lower side to prevent scour, (2) Water ton road and Wheatstone road — The bridges over Taylor's creek on these roads have been washed out during the late flood and are of no more use. pile bridges are needed with 16 and 14 feet spans respectively. We have had temporary bridges erected strong enough for ordinary traffic. (3) Beach road to Lowollfl— The appro aoh ea at the boundary creek being iia passable from the late floods are now being repaired. (4) Graham's road— An enormous quantity of water seems to have come down thio road during the late flood and has washed holes m the road m several places which will ba repaired as soon as possible. We do not|know whether any diversion takes place at Tlnwald, but it would ssem that an undue quantity of water is sent down this road. We oannot but think that Carter's creek does not take its quota of the storm water. Creeks and natural water courses Bkould be kept as free, as possible for the flow of water, and there la lit tie doubt that the roads and also private properties would suffer considerably lees than what they at present do. (5) Surveyor's road — The cleaning out of drain on the west side of the Hinds river ia being done. (6) Lodgboach road— We have had the ruts m this road between Willowby and the South road well raked m. (7) Maintenance — The maintenance man's diary lies on the- table. Clause 1. — Resolved to grant permission to take water race, and to make ford at present bridge. Clause 4— Resolved that Lysaght's oreek be oleaned out near the read, that the Surveyor write to owners to oreot swing panels where creek leaves the road, »nd have all willows and other obstructions removed. The report wan adopted. DEPUTATIONS; Mr Taylor interviewed the Board and complained of the overflow of storm water at Tinwald. He aaked if the Board would assist m conferring with the County Council m remedying the matter. Reselved to draw the Connoli's attention to the amount of storm water brought down the Lnghmor road, and suggest the deepening of drain into Carter's oreek and the oreek being cleared out. Messrs Bishop and Holland, with the Engineer, were appointed a deputation to wait on the Engineer to the County Council when inspecting the locality to draw np hta report. Mr Taylor brought before the Board the bad state of Brown's road. The Surveyor and Mr Holland to inspect and report at nexc meeting. Mr Taylor also brought before the Board the site of the present offioes, which were not convenient to the majority of the ratepayers who were prevented to a certain extent m bringing matters before the Board by their being out of the way. Ho thought the time had arrived when the Board might wisely removo their ( Jioes to Flemtngton. It was pointed out to Mr Taylor that It would probably be a difficult matter to cell the property, and the question wai | one that should be decided by the ratepayers of the district; auyhow the Board would comider the question at a fuller meeting than the present. Messrs Ashton and Williams interviewed the Board, asking to have a drain made at the junotion of the Beach and Mill roads. They would do the work themselves and to the satisfaction of tht Surveyor, ? . ■ ' i The Board Informed the deputation that a drain could only be made at the natural surface of the road, whioh oould be done. Mr Ashton also complained of the bridge over Taylor's oreek, Beach road, beinp too small to carry the water whioh at time of flood ovet flowed and came into Ford's oreek thereby doing considerable damage. The Board Btated they were not la a position to effect any alteration at present* ROAD AT MOUTH OF BIVEB. Mr Wilson again interviewed the Board re access to his section at the mouth of the River Ashburton, and considered the amount of £3 whioh the Board had previously granted to him towards doing the work was too Btnall. The Board informed him that thQ previous resolution would not be altered* BIRD NUISANCE. It was reßolved to give 2s per 100 for eggs and heads of small birds, excepting starlings, aud fco ask £ho JJpper Ashburton Road Btard to contribute half the "co«t with this Board for eggs, etc, collected m the Tluwald Tuwn District.
