Commerce held to-dsj', it waß resolved on the wi'tion of Mr John Lamb — "That thfa Chs.tnb:>r urgea apoa ( the Government thit they eet apart blocks ft land fpr pensioner seM.it- menta, and that the Government ba asked to give monetary assistance towards the passages of theße settlers to the country." A motion by Me S. Vaille, ss rollowa, waa referred to the Council of the Chamber: — "That the Auckland membero be requested to use their ir.flueace with the Government to guarantee a sum of £1000 to be paid to any Individual who shall construct reduction works for extracting gold aud silver from ores." ' Some diaoutsion took place re the mall services, and it was resolved to request the Auckland members to resint to the utmost any attempt to do away with the direct mail service. It waa decided that Government be urged to take steps for the cocßtractlon of a branch railway to Tarnnaki, connecting with the Main Trunk Line.
