TBE ANALYST'S REPORT. SUSPICIOUS INDICATIONS. Auckland, October 14 At a meeting of th« Waitoa Prospecting Association yeßterday af rornoon Mr Pond, analyst, gave a detailed report r>€ tbe result of the tests of stuff from Smith's and other properties at Waitoa. All showed < traces of gold and Bilver, but only one bad gold iv any quantity, and tha specs from the latter were examined under tbe mieorosoope. Experts dec'ared these were not wash gold, and all were convinced they looked decidedly suspicious. Mr Pond said it was evident it wab not natural gold. It 9 character m rvory way and particular was similar to fi ings or borings just as If a sovereign had been turned on a lathe. There conld be no doubt about i. The absenoa of silver was a moßt significant matter. He would not advise tha Association to prospect further Me Smith had givon every facility for testing hia land. Mr R. B. 8 Wills,- Waitoa who owns 240 acres an joining Mr Smith*, and waß employed to dig the stuff tested for the Canterbury Oompaoy, has been interviewed and asserts positively that no "salting" tojk plan 3 to hia knowledge.
