A TRAIN SNOWED UP-
Yesterday was one of the roughest days experienced m Asbburton this year. Saturday was for the most part bitterly cold, but all Sunday a howling Sou'wester blew, accompanied by incessant heavy showers of rain and sleet The wind was pierc ngly cold, and but very few cared to brave the elements. The mortality among the lambs must have been very great, and we hear that all through the County a great many have been killed by the severity of the weather. At Mount Somers there was a heavy snowstorm Sdow pprnmenced to fall on Saturday morning, and ponfinued up to late last night, when a cold rain . Bet m. There were several inches of enow on the ground at Mount Somers this morning. At Valetta there was a heavy drift on the line, which hud to be dug away before the train from Mount Somers to Ashburton could get through. The drift was about five chains m length, and from eighteen inches to over two feet m depth A delay of over an hour and a-half to the train was occasioned. Two breaks caused by storm water occurred on the railway line south of Ashburton, one at Tinwald, and another near the Hinds. The train from Timaru was delayed about an hour m consequence, and the. express wasi also hindered slightly. At Methven there was a heavy fall of snow. There was a considerable accumulation of storm water at Tin«vald last night and this morning, and from thenoe to Water ton tbe oountry was to-day all more or less under water. Along Graham's road many of the paddooks were flooded, the water mostly finding Ita way on t"> tbe road, whioh served tbe purpose of a great watercourse. Wherover a creek or race oroßeed the road there was a great depth of water and tbia, ocmbined with the Btrong current, made travelling very difficult. At Wat6rton the flood wbb exceptionally severe, and there is more storm water than there has been for yeara. The country, it is Baid, is aU flooded, and the roads are unsafe for traffic. The coaoh from Longbeach could not get through to Aahburton to-day,
