AN IRATE SOLICITOR
At Melbourne recently Mr J. Scott, a solicitor, of Richmond, brought an action to recoTer, £200 damages from the pro* prietor of the " Kiohmond Australian " for having suppressed from the Polios Court reports all mention of tbe faot that he had appeared m certain caoei. The notice of «ction was accompanied by this letter : — " Ttur continued, unwarrantable, and malicious suppression of my name as coll. oitor from your reports of the proceeding! m the Polioe Court at Riohmond for the last nine or twelve months (though I appeared on Wednesday fast m two or three cases, some of which ato reported In Saturday's issue) cannot, aa tending to my injury and prejudice, ar>y longer be tola* rated. Further, m your issue of the 7th, ia your report of the pablto meeting of the ratepayers at the Town Ball aa to the loan, all the- speakers are pretty fully re* ported, and all that Is said with regard to my speech (admitted, aa I am Informed, to be the speech of the evening) ia " auother speaker nappor.ed the reoolutlon," not eren msntioning the name. Such reporting I can characterise as being uojuit unfair, malicious, and calculated to lower and degrade me m the eyes of the public, and to prejud Cilly affect my business In the district, and cai be submitted to no longer " On behalf ot the newspaper proprietor, application was made to Mr Juotioa Holy* rod that tbe action Bhould be dismissed as frivolous and vexations, and aa an. abuse of the proce sof the Court.
