Tho Government have received information fh swing that tbe outbreak atLaunca?ton U really smallpox and of a serious character. Fourteen cases have ccourrrd, three endiDg fatally. Contrary to the usnal custom the Tasmaniaa Government did not send notice to the various colonies and the truth was only elicited &b the reoa't of a telegram to them. A proclamation will be g'zUted to day declirnsf Tasmania an infected country, and all vessels arriving from her porta will be q larantined. Victorli h»B already stopped the Laancaton trade and quarantined boats plying thero. Three families who arrived by the lonic were sent to the quarantine station this morning m conseqnenoa of Borne of their children suffering from a mild attack of measles.
