THE NATIVE PERJURY CASE.
Auckland, September 27. The hearing of the famous perjury cases against the five native witnesses m the rape cas6 against Wright terminated to-day at the tupreme Court. Mr Dufaur, counsel for the defence, has protested against Judge Ward hearing these cases, as the latter had ordered the arrest of the prisoners, and to-day when Hariata, the second of the prisoners, was brought up Mr Dufbur intimated that as all his appeals for postponement of trials till next sessions bad been disregarded he and Mr O'Meagher, the other counsel for tho defence, had agreed that they would not call witnesses or cross-examine witnesses for the prosecution, as it was intended to bring the matter before Parliament, and they would retire from the Court. His Honor briefly rejoined that their clients would not suffer. The case then pro ceeded, and Batiata was discharged, to come up for fentence when called on. Marat a was also discharged on the same terms.
