UPPER ASHBURTON ROAD BOARD.

The usual monthly meeting of the above Board was held at Tinvald on Monday. Present — Messrs McLean (Chairman), Sargent, Stitt, and Campbell, MINUTES. The mlnnteß of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was dealt with as follows : — (1) From Messrs flolmea and Loaghrey re providing a road to KS, 30966, owned by Mrs Drnmmond. The Boaid decided that the eama conld not be undertaken by It.— (2 and 3) From the County Council of Ashburtou, stating that the course of Frasar'a creek would be enlarged ; end asking the Board to take charge of water race oroaelngs and attend to same at the Council's expense. It was decided to comply with the request con* tamed In the letter of September sth, 1887.— (4) From the Aehburton Boroush Council re health matters — Received, — (5) From the Manager of the Union Bank Aahburton re overdraft. The Chairman stated that he had seen the Manager. — (6 to 8) From Mr Anderson of Yaldhurßt, objecting to pay rates on his land, which rates had been allowed to gat into arre*r by his late tenant, Mr L. Davies,— lt was unanimously resolved that the collector request an immediate settlement of same or sue for the amount.— (o) Petition from Allenton ratepayers praying for work to be done. CULYEMS, The Clerk waß directed to request the Borough Council to extend culverts on Cavendish and Aliens road the full chain wide and to form foothpath along Winters road as promised. — The ratepayers to be informed that if shingling 1b required, the Board will strike a special rate for that purpose alone. RESKRVE. The question of letting the Road Board Reserve with house, office and stable included was next considered. It was decided to let the name for a period of seven years, tenders to ba in by the naxt sittting of the Board. surveyor's repo t. The Surveyor's report was read and adopted, and it waß resolved to put on men to clear the gorae fronting main South road, near Saleyards, at occupiers expense, and also to clear gorae at the expense of Messrs Olsrk Bros and Scarlet, if same is not done at once. RATE. It was unanimously resolved to confirm the striking of the rate for tbe XJppei Aahburton Road Board and the Ashbur ton Forks River District, to be payable respectively In one sum on October lßt 1887, for year 1817-8; and September 30 1887, for period ending 30th September 1887.— 1t was resolved thit Moßara Slit and Campbell do sign the Rate Book for the Road Boned and also for the River. District. The clerk was directed to make a Hit of all properties on roll t) any unknown owner att submit same to the Boan? at next meeting so that action may be taken to recover rates. PAYMENTS. Accounts amounting to £91 4s Oi were passed for payment and 'he Board adjourned to October 31st, 1887.
