Suspected Infanticide. Auckland, September 26. The dead body of a newly-born male child waa found to-day m a paddock behind the Thistle Hotel. It is believed to have been strangled, but the medical report has not yet been made. A man named William Bailey, who has been residing with his brother near Oakura, has been missing since September IBth. The man has been m the habit of wandering m the hills. Inquiries are being made of his whereabouts. He is eaid not to be right m his head. Mayoralty. Wellington, September 26. Wm. Tyson is mentioned as a candidate for the Mayoralty, I Gymnasium. A movement is on foot to establish a publio gymnasium About £3500 is collected already. Tire. Invkboargill, September 26. A six-roomed houae, East Invercargill, owned and occupied by a widow named Gouberg, has been burned down. Insurance, £150 on house and furniture, m the South British . A Wi'e Decision. Arrangements have been made for the admission to tlie South School, of children from the Charitable Aid Board's Home. This decision will give satisfaction, muoh feeling having been aroused by the refusal of che School Committee to admit such children.
