The Bank of England weekly returns show the total reserve m notes and bullion to be an increase of during the week. The proportion of reserve to liabilities has advanced from 44 to 45 per cent. The market rate of discount has advanced to ys, and is now J4 below the Batik rate. Colonial breadstuff's and tallow are without quotable change. At the wool auctions to-day 10,700 bales were offered. Prices were steady, but the demand not active. Since the opening of the series 19,000 bales have been withdrawn out of a total of 170,000 offered. The series will close on October 6th. Sydney, Saptember 23 New Zealand wheat is unchanged at 3s 3d to 3s 6d ; New Zealand oats, is rod to 2s 2d; maizs 2s 9d to 33 nd. Adblaids, September 23 The demand for wheat is limited. Quotation, 3s 7j£d. Flour is dull at Hie following prices : — Town flour,' £9 5 s t0 £9 Ios } country brands ;£8 ss to £% ios.
