Mklbovrne, September 14. At the anonal meeting of the Melbourne Cricket Olub, Mr A. M. Ollivler, of Ohristchuroh, was made a ltfa member, la consideration of his services to the Club. The Key Dr Cameron Lees will be entertained at a conversazione m the Town Hall th's evening by the congregation of Soota Charoh and friends. Dr Lees leaves for England, via New Zaaland, on the 20 oh inst. Sir Honry Parkes arrived here on Saturday, en route for Adelaide. Dating the morning he had an iatarvlevr with Mr Giilies and several qtber members of the Ministry on various questions of Intercolonial Importance. Tha fjcat sub* ject discussed was that of the advisability of the federation of the c jlon'es for the purpose of military defence. This was considered without reference to any other subjects. Ministers were pretty well In > aco >rd as to what should be done, so mach so that Sir H. Parkei was requested to draw up a plan. The next Bubjaot considered was that of the Influx of Chinese into Australia, but time did not allow of the matter being very fully disonssed yesterday. Sufficient was done, however, to show that the Government of Victoria and New South Wales wore virtually m favor of prohibition, or rather m favor of steps which would amount virtually to prohibition. They discussed the landtag of French criminals m tha Australian Colonies, both Premiers being anxious tha colonies ahould be effectually protected m this respect.
