The half-yearly meeting of the Oddfellows of the Ash burton district was held m the schoolroom, Springburn, on Fiiday last, the Provincial G.M., Bro C : Beid, presiding. The Deputy- Prvvincial GM n Bro G. F. Scott, and the Provincial C.S., Bro R. Minnie, were also present. Delegates certificates for the various Lodges m the district wore presented by the follow- ' ing brethren :— Loyal Aiahburton Lodge by P.G., Bro I. Tucker, P.G., Bro W. Maynard, and Bro J. Cockburn ; Loyal ! Pioneer Lodge by P.G , Bro A. McNeill. Fines were recorded against Lodges not ] represented. A copy of district rules was considered at length and adopted. The following brethren were nominated to fill the various seat 3 for the district during the coming year: — As Provincial G.M., Bro G. F. Scott (the present DeputyProvincial G.M.), and P.lS's Bros J. Tucker, O. Tucker, W. B. Dolman, T. Williams, and E. B Cooper ; for DeputyProvincial G.M., P.G's Bros W. E. Dnlman, E, B. Cooper, A McNeil, D. Syme, J, Pearson, and Soal. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to P. P.G M , Bro Richardson, of the North Canterbury district, for his very able assistance m carrying out the business of the rneeiing. P.P.G.M. Bro Richardson acknowledged the vote of thanks, and said it gave him great pleasure to be present, and expressed his willingness to do anything m hia power for the promotion of uddfe'.lowehip A unanimous vote of thanks was accorded to P.G., Bro D. Syme and family, for the manner they entertained tho district officers and delegates, the mover speaking m high terms of Bro Symes 1 worth m his Lodge, his energy and attention to his duties as their Permanent Secretary, his kindness m entertaining the visitors, and placing his stable at their disposal for the vie of their horses. Bro Symo suitably acknowledged The minutes being read and confirmed the meeting was declared closed . A Lodge of Past Grands was held m the Loj r al Pioneer Lodge room on the 17th inst , Provincial G.M., Bro C. Reid, presiding, when members holding certificates received their respective degrees. A hoarty vote of thanks waa accorded to P.PG.M., Bro J. Richardson, for hia valuable assistance m the ceremony. The minutes were read and confirmed. The membera of the Loyal Pioneer Lodge of Oddfellows celebrated their sixth anniversary by an entertainment and ball, m the echoolrcom, Springburn, on Friday last. The room wbb crowded The local Christy Minstrels kept the audience m good humor for a couple of hours, their singing, farces, and stump speeches being much appreciated, to judge by the frequent applause. After the close of the entertainment the room was cleared and dancing was kept up until daylight. The music was supplied by Messrs W, Hood and Price, who manipulated the piano and violin respectively. A pleasing feature during the night was the presentation of a very handsomely-framed P.G's. certificate of merit to P.G., Bro A. McNeill. The presentation, accompanied with a neat speech, was made on behalf of the Lodge by Provincial G.M., Sro C, Reid. P.G. Bro McNeill suitably acknowledged the present, and gave some sound advice to those who were not Oddfellows or members of any benefit society.
