AN ECONOMICAL MINISTRY.
During their comparatively short tenure of office the present Ministry has appointed thirteen fresh members of the Legislative Council, whose honoraria amount m the gross to the tidy sum of 2600 guineas. It may safely be asserted that these appointments were perfectly useless, as the Legislative Council was quite large enough without them. But why should not Sir Julius Yogel and Sir Bobert Stout be permitted to reward their friends and supporters, even though by doing so they have saddled the oolony with an annual payment of 2600 guineas during the rest of the term of these thirteen gentlemen's natural lives ?
