A HOSPITAL DIFFICULTY
Auckland, September 16,
The dissatisfaction whioh has for a con» siderable time been expressed regarding the managment of the Hospital was the subject of a discussion at a special meeting of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board yesterday, when the honorary visiting ntaff of the Hospital were also present, together with Dr Maogregor, the Inspector of Asylums, etc Tae visiting staff have openly denounoad the scheme recently adopted by the Board m resolving to secure a permanent Medical Superintend ent for the Hospital as impracticable, it being considered by them inadvisable that the charge of suoh a large institution; with the sole responsibility of conducting surgical operations, should rest upon one man. Certain charges of incompetency and neglect were, it is alleged, made by some members cf the BDard against the visiting staff, and Dr Haines, one of the staff, wrote demanding an inquiry into the management of the Hospital, so aB to give an opportunity of disproving the charges. It waß accordingly resolved, at yesterday's meeting, after along discussion, that a speoial meeting be held on Sept. 28 to oonslder the question of Hojpltal management. The Board regretted the statements which had given offence to members of the medic*! staff.
