Mt ' O'Meagher, for the defence, oontended that 1 the evidence did not disclose the fact whether the cheque waa a valid order. ' None of the witnesses were able to give r any idea of the contents of the cheque beyond that It was for £65. He quoted the case of Regina v Waters, heard before Chief Jaatlce Prendergaat, where figares had been pat m numerals instead of B being written, and secondary evidence had been given as to the contents of ' tne cheque. The jury returned a verdict of " Guilty," with a recommendation to r mercy. His Honor reserved sentence, pending consideration by the Court of Appeal of the point raised by Mr O Meagher, prisoner m the meantime to be r kept m custody. J Wakganoi, September 15.
