A WESLEYAN GOLD MINE
The Waaleyan Missionary Society has unexpectedly come into possession of a gold mine. Fir a connlderable time the agents of this society have been exploring the regions of South Central Afrioa with tbe obj sot of establishing a chain of oat* ! poets Into the inteiior, and the Rev Owen Watkloa - has been doing service m pioneer work. It ia found essential, In constqaenca of peculiar local oustoms, to secure sufficient land m these regions where the necessary buildings can be erected as a centre of missionary opera* tiona. Iv one of theee exploring expeditions Mr Watkina found it was essential to procure a piece of land, and at the same time a large farm, since known as the Good Hope farm, was found to be m the market Mr Watkina purchased the land for £600. It was thought by a few individuals at the time a bad precedent, but the Manchester people fully justified him by furnishing him with the whole of money. Intelligence has just arrived at the Wesley an Mission Bouse that gold has been discovered on the farm, and that the sum of £10,000 has already been offered for the land.
