GOLD AT THE THAMES
Auckland, Sep 1 ember 13 Respecting the reoenfc find of gold at Mr J. B. Smith's property, at Waltoa , r h*ee tons of stuff ; obtained from various holes sunk on the ground, have been tested at Mr G. Fraser'a foundry, Auckland Complete tests were made by assay and by a practical test of the pans, *rith the result that the value of the 'tuff was estimated at £2 14s per ton. The average value of bullion, as determined at th. Bank of New Zbaland, is £3 12s 6d per too. It m stated that Mr Smith has been offered £14,000 for 1000 aores, the half of his estate, and 1000 paid-up shares m the company which is to be fhated at Ohristcharch to work the find. The gold found U free, and th* washdirt consists of a miitare of sand and a kind of pipeolay, and is of considerable depth, underlying a large area not only on Mr Smith's but on other properties m the Piako district.
