Mr Ashton interviewed the Board and askod permission to make a water race along a certain road— The Sarvejor wai inatruoted to Inspeot and report. BoUNDAAY BOAD BfilDOK. This matter left over from last raettlqg was then oonjldered— lt was resolved t« reply that the Board at present ha* no funds at its disposal m that watd tot thi work. HORSBT'S ROAD, "■■ ■ , .' Mr Horsey made application for pipit on this road— Granted. ■ , m su » vb *ors' botort, (1) Terrace Road : We have examined the ford on this road, complained of by : Mr Small, who asked that it should be clotted, and a drain made down the road to a natural watercourse. The water thai now goeß across the ford comes from an old drain that is now at the west side of the road. This drain was evidently.m«de to carry the drainage of the country to the west of the Terrace Bead. The Board made the ford m the line of the drain where it crosses the road, the ford not being low enough, backs a certa«n amount of Water into the drain, and complaint is made of insufficient drainage ; a natural watercourse crosses the road about II or 12 chainß below the ford, and re-crosMiv back again some 17 chains further down. We have not followed this watercourse up, but it i B evident that very little water is allowed to come down it now. The question is where did the wator that now cornea down the drain at the side of the road go before the drain was made ? We should say into this natural wateroourse, but if the water has been diverted should the Board bring it back into its natural course? We think m all oases that it would save complaints if it were insisted that natural watercourses should be followed where drainage affects the roads. In this oase the Board would simply have to make two fords where the creek crosses the road. At present a considerable quantity of water is flowing down the . road from the ford, which is partly blocked, thereby damaging the road. (2) Boundary Road : We hare ln> specied this road, and find that the three bridges between Windermere Road amd the Hinds require renewing, one wholly and the other two partly. We should also recommend that the holes and ruts be filled m with clay and gravel. Olauae I—The1 — The Board considered that m view of infringing on private rights they cannot entertain the request. Clause 2— The Surveyors were inttruc* ted to have bridges repaired and ruts filled m m dry weather. surveyor's road. ; It was resolved to make a drain on the upper side of this road to the west of the Hinds, the utufi taken out to make a track for traffic. It was resolved to write to the Ooldatream Road Board asking them to continue the drain m their dis* trlofc as the road was very boggy* LOHGBEAUa; BOAD. The Surveyors were instructed to have ruts raked m on this road from Wlllowby to the South road. ACCOUNTS, After paeslug accounts, the Board adjourned.
