THE ASHBURTON TEMPERANCE CLUB.
TO THE EDITOR
Sir, — On account of the many rumors that are abroad concerning the At-hburton Temperance Club, I ask you to grant me a small space m your valuable columns to correct an idea impressed upon the public, namely, that the above institution is established m the interests of the Wesleyan Cbnrch. This, sir, as one of the Committee I most emphatically deny. Any male over the age of fourteen is eligible for raembershiD, irrespective of creed or position. It is true that the above Club was Btarted by the Rev Mr McNicoll for the simple reason that none other came forward to do so noble a deed. I think, sir, that you will agree with me that such an institution as the above-mentioned is worthy of a standing m our midet, aod by the aid of all temperance people of Ashburton, I fail to see why it cannot. 1 hanking you for your valuable space sir, I am, etc , Adam's Ale.
