A VALUABLE DISCOVERY.

W« are informed that two minerals new te the district have been lately discovered, both of which are rich m silver. Gee of these lie ithe mineral knownas Tetrahedra te or Fahil ore, a most complicated substance, compounded of sulphur and antimony, copper, lead, iron, zinc, silver, and often other matals &b well. It is of common occurrence m Europe and America, and a Variety of it has been found m Nelson. Province. The quantity of silver is Variable, bat is usually considerable. An assay of the local stuff under the direction of Mr Montgomery, of the Thames School of Mines, yielded silver at the rate of 320z. lSdwts, and gold at the rate of 2dwts per ton. It was found m a small stringer on the beach at Koputauaki, by Mr M. Dayies, the mineral forming a small vein m the _ centre of the leader and being accompanied with much iron pyrites. The ether mineral has been recognised by Mr Montgomery as sulphide of ailter, con. taining a little sulphide of copper, but a quantitative assay on the stone has not J«tbetnmade. Pnre sulphide of silver contains 87 per cent of the metal. It is to be hoped that these discoveries will stimulate, farther .prospecting for the ▼attain valuable minerals which, without gtrabt, ©ecu* throughout the Hauraki r«*ln«la.
