MOUNT SOMERS PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.

■I' » # L^BOM OtJR COBBEBPONDZNT.J ■On Friday last a meeting of members of the Mount Somers congregation took place m the Sohoolhouse here. Present — were two members of the Preßbyterian Church Committee, three members of the oongregation. The question of a oall to the Rev West, of Southbridge, was the chief matter of business. It was resolved that two gentlemen present, should frame a number of questions, to be laid before the ooDgregation, on (he following Sunday. It was also recommended that a full explanation of all the circumstances bearing upon the call, should precede the putting of those questions.] In accordance with these resolutions, the congregation were invited ou Sunday, 28th, to remain m Churoh after the service, m order to consider some matters of importance. There remained two ladles, two Committeemen, two Presbyterian members and two outside members of the congregation. _ The first question " Would the congregation be m favor of signing a call to the Rev Mr Weßt, of Southbridge," was carried unanimously, but |no explanation of details had previously been given, nor had the fact, that another candidate for the charge of the district was available, been pointed out to thone present, The second question " Would, the oongregation tee their way clear to support financially the proposal of build a manse, on the Church property at Springburn," met with some dissent, the majority being, how ever, m favor of the proposal. The third and last question, "What contribution to tht stipend would the congregation consider fair for this district to offer without the manse; 1 * was dooked, no doubt unintentionally, of the the last three words. It was answered by the meeting being m fa\or of adhering to the prasent contribution, viz., £40 per annum* A person present rose to ask a question m regard to this point, but as he failed to oatch [ the president's eye, the benediction was pro* | nounoed by that gentleman before the explana* tionthe intending questioners desired, could be demanded. To-morrow or on Friday I Bhall send you a letter explaining matters moie fully ; for I consider m a matter of so much importance to the district, one and all who belong to it, should be informed minutely of their position m the matter. It would be injurious to all concerned, if any section of our neighbors were to remain m misapprehension on any point that could and ought to be made dear to them. Most fortunately the mteting of Presbyterian Delegates whioh should have taken place to-night, August 31st, has been postponed till Ootober 6, when they will be expected to meet at Ashburton, m the Vestry of the Preßbyterian Churoh, at 10 a.m. This delay will enable the public of Mount Somers to become acquainted with the details of the proposed oall.
