RUSSIAN SEVERITY.
The Odessa correspondent of the " Daily Hewi" writes: — "I was present In the Appellate Court here when an appeal was heard from a Russian poasant named Krajzauoviki. against the sentence of six months' imprisonment adjudged him by the -'Kamenelz-Podolik Tribunal for blasphemy. Tbe appellant's offence was this. — Tired and weary after a long day's labor In tbe harvest field last year, he entered the Tillage tavern and drank a glass of vodkha. After this appetiser he was ; lapplied with a small meat roll, called In Russian .' priog.' The peasant found the 'priog.'. snob, .excellent eating that be exclaimed, ' I would rather kits the girl who made this priog than the leoni' The Utter is the saored picture aerer absent from any Russian habitation,- before which it is asual for visitors jio lippoyer and 'prog* themselves.' The peasant's exclamation was highly complimentary to the cook of the tavern ; but the parish priest, to whom it was reported beard and judged it m a different light. Hence _tho prosecution and sentence. The peasant, whom I saw enter the box and devoutly cross himself before the 'leon r m Court, was a middle-aged, jovial, and good-tempered looking man, who appeared muoh relieved by the Court reduoing the original sentence to dne month's arrest. '
An attempt of elopement from Sandhurst by a married musician with a young lady, has been nipped m the bud. The runaways were overtaken by the young lady's irate brother, and he so worked on bis sister's feelings that she decided to return home.
