[ A large number of electors m the Rangitata district have been urging Mr James Brown t of Wakanui, to oontest tho constituency. Mr Brown, not wishing any of the electors to commit themselves to him, without having first heard an expression of his views, has determined to addreßß a publio meeting upon the 1 political questions of the day, when, if the eleotors are satisfied with his views, he will be ready to seek their suffrages. The date on whioh Mr Brown will-speak has been fixed (or Thursday next.J It. is announced that Mrs Soott, of Christ* church, will conduct ft week's mission at Tinvrald, commencing ta-morrow, at 8 p.m., m the Templar Hall, and continuing on every evening during the week (except Wednesday) at 7.30 o'clock, dosing with a final service at Willowby on the morning of Sunday, 3rd September.
