CANTERBURY COURSING CLUB.
The final meeting of the above Club was brld on the Acton estate yesterday (by permission of Mr W. L. Allan, the genial manager.) Tho weather was all that could bo desired, and a fnir number both mounted and on foot were present. Mr Chattuis acted as judge, and Mr G. Robinson us slipper. % O«ing to the lateness of tne season and the hares pairing thfy wore very wi'd, and although plentiful m the morning, it was two hours before the first slip was made. One dog, when slipped, foun'l the haro too small to sight, and made straight for a sheep, hie owner very kindly presenting tho dog to a resident, and it is sincere y to be lioped that his now owner will keep him tied up or trouble may come of it.
The entritis for the eapliag stakes closed on I ho ground, and found four competitors In the afternoon hares became very scarce, and time would not permit either of the eventsto be ruo off There were aoveral undecided coursos on ing to sovoral hares getting up at once Luncheon was provided by Mr Allin, and three cheers were given for that gentleman at the conclusion of the day's sport. Tho following is the result of the running : — August Cup, for all age*, at £2 2s each ; 8 subs Winner, £11 ; runner up, £5. Grigg's ,bk d East Lynno, by CrichopelLr'nn — Una. beat Mr Tweedy 'a bk and w b Farewell, by Glen — Trixey. Mr J. Twotdy's bk and w b Star of the South, by Spring- Topsy, be it Mr T. Alexander's bdl b Bonnie Jean, by Kir Ridley — Bonny Scotland. Mr J. Franks' wan 1 r b Bansheo 11., Bordeaux— Banshoe, boat Mr J. Barker's f b Maecotto, by Crichopo Linn Una. This was a'l the coursing dooo on thi<j event, and Tasmania, East Lynn, Baushce II. f and Star of the Sou.h divided the etakod. The Sapling Stakes, at £1 Is eachFirst round. Mr Milner's Lady Emma beat Mr Alexander's Crisis. Mr Lee's Yorkshire Lass boat Mr Dono hue's Bridesmaid. This was all the work done and Lady Emma and Yorkshire Laos divided the stake.
