The pedigree brood mares and entire horse 1 "Conqueror," that are advertised m our oolumns for sale here on Saturday next, by Messrs Friedlander Bros, m their East Street Horse Bazaar, having arrived by express last night, we had an opportunity of inspecting them m Totty'fl stables, and oan assure our ( farming friends that the whole lot are well ' worthy of their inspection, the 11 animals I being quite a show m themselves, and all who may wish to prooure any first-class pedigree Clydeßdales should not fail to be present at the sale of these horses. The entire colt "Conqueror" is a grand specimen of the Clydesdale, and from his blood should prove a moßt desirable investment, and a first-olass sire m this distriot. All stock breeders Bhould feel thankful to Mr Gawn and the auotioneera for introducing such grand stook here. The tea meeting and concert arranged by the Primitive Methodist Church m Ashbnr. ton came off very successfully, and the results financially should be very satisfactory. Tho tea provided by the ladies, was aervod m the Churoh m Wills street, a large number of visitors coming long distances. The concert wrb held m tho Oddfellows' Hall, and there was a crowded audience. A Btrong ohoirand orchestra of musicians rendered a programme of eaored music for the first part, and after Mr Lill had aold a large bride-cake by Dutch auotion, the seoond part was given, being of a eeoular nature. Mr Bay conducted, and must be congratulated on the euccoss of ths whole mnsioal proceedings. Solos by Misses Kidd.Ray and Potter, and Mrs Dunn were given, each piece being warmly rtoeived. Altogether the concert was a great success, and great praise mast be given to those taking part m this pleasant affair. It is hardly necessary to remind our readers of the speech to bo delivered m the Oddfollo* s' Hall this evening by Sir Julius Yogel. At a junoture, suoh as the present, ths utterances of a politician of the Btanding of the Colonial Treasurer are full of interest, and tbera is no doubt tho hall will be orammed to-night. Those who are m the habit of indulging m raw onions, says a medioal man, may be consoled for the sooial disadvantages which ensue by the fact that onions are about the best nervine known. The loss by the recent forest fires m tho Northern Peninsula of Michigan is estimated at no less than seven million dollars. The Controller-General is proceeding against the members of the Late County Counoil for the reoovery of nearly £1300 that Mr Batkin, after a special audit, reported to have been expended illegally. A telegram to the " Daily Timeß " says that two of the Councillors who were concerned have died m the interim. Sir George Bowen's refucal to resume the Governorship of Hong Kong is reported to be due to a determination on the part of oar ex-Governor to enter on political life m England. A London newspaper reports that a very important new department has been ma.de m the manufacture of paper by the ereotion of works, m the neighborhood of London, for the utilisation of stable refuse, etc The results obtained m this prooess are said to be bo satisfactory that, after due provision has been made for the value of the residual produots of the materials employed, the cost of producing the paper is next to nothing.
