PAPER BOTTLES.

♦ A novel and important industry has of late sprung up m Chicago, whence it ia ,sprouding to other partß of the United States, and is now being introduced into England. This ie.the manufacture of paper bottles by a process which is the invention of Mr L. H. Thomas, of Chicago Theße bottles are unbreakable, and of various shapes and sizes Buited to the requirements of the trades and manufacturers using such articles. They are produced very much more cheaply than the ordinary bottles made of glass, strne» ware, and tin. They are mad') by special machinery, and m their manufacture a large sheet of paper, glued or co merited on one side, is rolled on a mandrel into a, tube o f &■)' required length, thickness ;nd diameter. An outer glazed cover n', which c nsists of the colored labels or inscriptions for the bottles, is then g'u d on the tube, which is afterwnrds cut up into the required lengths for a given number of bottles. r J he tops and bot inms which m some cases are of wood and m others of paper, are then cemented m, and the necks of th'i bott'ep, where necks arc required, are secured. The interiors of trie bottles are then lined with a fluid composition, which sets hard and will resis acids and spirits. Irrespec ivo of the low cost of iheßO paper bottles, they have the »d vantages of being unbreakablo and of not requiring any packing material m transit, while, the weight being greatly reduced, as against that of ordinary bottles, there is a saving m the cost of freight.
