CONTRADICTION.

A letter m another column contradictf, with authority, the statement made by the "Lyttelton Times" and " Press " this morning, with regard to the Rangitata seat, that Mr Buxton has resigned m favor of Mr Maslin. Our contemporaries have been misinformed. It was Mr Maslin who resigned m Mr Buxtons favor. In fact Mr Maslin had not announced himself as a candidate but intended doing so if Mr Buxton refused, and when the latter announced himself Mr Maslin retired m his favor. We trust our contemporary will see the necessity for publishing a contradiction of their statement.
