Later acoounts from Tar anaki show tbtt Major Atkinson's ohanoes of ever again representing the Egtnonfc district m Parliament are very remote. The recent imposition of a harbor rate has intensified the feeling which existed against him m all the Southern part of the district, he being looked upon as the father of tLe Harbor Bill m its present form, if not of the harbor scheme. Hla erstwhile principal snpporters at Hawera, Normanby, and Patea have seceded fn>ra him, and the Northern part of the district, from Stratford to Kahotu, has been cut eff and attached to the New Plymouth or Taranakl electoral district. The bulk of the electors therefore, consists of the settlers who are opposing the harbor rate, and who have deolared war to the knife against the Harbor Board and Its supporters, of whom the Mapr Is the prlnolpal " Evening Bell.
